Story

On Sunday 8th May 2011 sisters Emily and Martha will be taking part in the Leeds Half Marathon with a group of friends. So what I hear you say? Well they haven’t been running since they were about 13 years old at school. Martha came last in every running event and as a result was actually named ‘duck feet’ by friends, so this is a big challenge to her in particular. The girls wish to run in memory of those close family and friends that have been affected by Meningitis and in particular Eloise Lema Dalton who lost her life to Pneumococcal Meningitis and Septicemia on 17 December 2009. She was 9 months old. http://meningitisuk.tributefunds.com/fund/Eloise+Lema+Dalton Emily and Martha wish to raise awareness of the devastating illness that took her life at such a young age ALL money raised will be given to Meningitis UK to help them prevent other families from future heartache. So please dig deep and give what you can even if it is only a few pennies.

Hi Abby, So sorry we didn’t see you or I didn’t text you - I got your number from Jem but didn’t take my phone in the end. It was very hard, but a massive achievement, although a few of our friends have said it was an even bigger achievement that we didn’t drink a drop of vino all weekend in preparation. Maybe we should do a sponsored detox next. We are thrilled to have exceeded our target of £500 and with offline donations should reach over £600, which is just fantastic as it is going to such a worthwhile cause. Our official times - Emily – 2.34.12 Martha – 2.47.10 Eloise was in our thoughts as we ran and she gave us the strength to keep going especially the last 3 miles. I’m delighted that the money will help towards finding a new vaccine and anything else we can do to help let us know. Would be great to meet up. xx

Hello ladies. How did it go? I didn't get to see you on the day I'm so sorry. It was so busy I. I was up around the Headrow area with Megan at the start but was doing a sponsored walk in north yorkshire that day so couldn't be at the finish line. How did you do? I hope you are not too sore and feeling happy with what you have achieved. It's really something for non runners to do a half marathon and a fantastic amount that you have raised for Eloises Forever Fund I know she would appreciate it very much. I am sure that she will have given you strength on the day too. I would like to be able to meet you both to say thankyou in person. Every bit of support we get means alot so if you don't mind I will speak to Paul try get ur numbers. Maybe I could buy you both a drink n you can tell me how it went and about your training. I need to start! Thankyou both again and I feel bad I didn't get to see you on the day. X

Thanks Abby and for your support. We did the Keighley 10K a couple of weeks ago as part of our training and it went well. We are going to Mallorca next week for our dad’s 70th birthday celebrations so will be nice to do some training in the sunshine. Definitely meet up afterwards and great that you are coming to support as that is what will keep us going. I’ll get your number from Paul. Sending last plea for sponsorship e-mail to friends today but we have some off line sponsorship to add to here too so we will definitely have reached our target – whoop whoop. xxx

Thankyou so much ladies for doing this run in memory of Eloise. What the charity do really can make a difference. A vaccine that would have saved Eloises life was released just 2 months after we lost her so progress is being made. Too late for our angel but will save hundreds of babies and children suffering this horrible illness. We are so grateful for what you are doing. You should feel very proud. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you and I will b sponsoring you shortly. Kisses from us and especially On behalf of Eloise. Good luck with the training too xxxxxxxxx
